We, Brian and Lisa, began our adventure in the summer of 2005. Lifelong city dwellers with a desire to simplify our life, we moved to the country. What started out as a purchase of a single goat named Penny, lead to an entire homestead and love for all things natural. Our homestead is comprised of a small heard of goats, a bunch of noisy chickens, a large vegetable garden and a big English Mastiff named Dudely. Through research we found that the addition of a beehive to your property can promote higher yields of vegetables, it was an easy jump into getting a beehive. We have a wonderful commercial pollinator (bee farm) about 45 mins from our house. I obtained a hive and brought my girls home. They have been a wonderful addition to our garden and it makes me smile when I am poking around my garden and see a bee buzzing around a flower. I also started planting beneficial flowers and get super excited when I see the bees all over them! When I go in and check on the hives, you have to be very calm and centered. I found that it was a great way to deal with the stress of the day- I had to be calm or I'd probably get stung! Not only did my hard working girls make my garden produce, they gave us honey and beeswax. I started making my family and friends lip balms and salves. I tinkered with recipes and ingredients and asked for input on likes and dislikes. Before long we had a few recipes that people consistently gave us compliments on and said "you should sell that". About a year and a half ago we decided to jump in and make this a business. We both work full time jobs and devoted almost all of our free time to designing labels and finding the right containers. We also had to figure out how to make our products in larger production. This took an amazing about of time. Getting the details right and having the product come out consistent took over a year! We officially launched in January of this year and have been steadily making gains. We are always working on new product ideas and testing them on our friends and family. We try to use 100% natural ingredients when we can, but have to occasionally use ingredients that are not 100% natural. Those are mostly to make products shelf stable or for scent. We are committed to promoting the benefits of beeswax, honey, and natural ingredients we use. We only have a few hives which is not enough to produce the amount of honey we need so we buy it from the local pollinator farm where I got my beehive from. We also do not produce enough beeswax so we get this from a bulk supplier. It is cosmetic grade beeswax which is the finest grade of beeswax available because it is the most pure. I hope this is a little glimpse into who we are and how we got started. We are working on Better Bee everyday and learning more and more about owning and operating a business. Let me know if you have any other questions or would like me to provide any other information. Thanks again for your support!
